I want to buy a puppy, I have had several opps, online,?

hot moma asked:

BUT they have all in one way or another been a little,…weird. I dont want to get scammed but,I want a puppy. How do I tell if the place is for real? And since I did find one of the address in question on a blacklisted, list how do I report them? And even though I didn’t go through with the buy can I still reportthem as a fraud?

And don’t buy a puppy online - meet it in person and decide if the PERSONALITY is right for you.

Do not buy from a pet store - pet store puppies come from puppy mills and irresponsible breeders and are usually sick. Don’t feed the beast that is the Puppy Mill Industry.

It’s a living being. Not a pair of shoes.

I think the safest way to go is to buy it at a pet store

Go rescue a puppy at the local shelter.

You should never purchase a puppy or any animal from the internet. There are so many “puppy scams” going on now a days that it’s hard to tell who is real and who is a fraud.
Never get a puppy unless you see the parents and the puppy itself in person in order to make sure they are properly cared for and what not.

There are puppies dying in shelters near you.

Buying a puppy online is a sure way to pay too much for a sickly puppy.

At least look for a local breeder.

Find a reputable breeder in your area. Go see the parents first hand. Or try the shelters. The puppies you find online are going to be puppy mill puppies - they will have health problems that will be very expensive to deal with in the long run.

If you can buy a dog online, it’s a scam. Period. Reputable breeders don’t sell their dogs over the internet.

Please look around at your local shelters. There are normally so many puppies waiting to be adopted, or even adults.

the only way to be 100% sure it’s not a scam is to buy locally, or to email the breed representative of the akc (for the specific breed you’re interested in) for a list of breeders they recommend.

for example, if someone is offering an english bulldog puppy for free (and all you have to do is pay shipping) or if it only costs like $500 (versus the usual $2000), its a scam.

if the breeder wants you to send them money through western union or money gram, its a scam.

Never buy a dog online. You always want to meet your dog and see its personality. There are plenty of great dogs in shelters that you could save the life of. Look in your local paper and you can find plenty of local dogs to choose from if you have to have a 8 week old puppy. Oh, and pet stores are the second worse place to buy a dog. Never buy a dog online and never buy a dog from a pet store.
